Most people live paycheck to paycheck, owe hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on credit card bills, are paying off student loans, and have very little time for their families and themselves. Young adults go to college for at least four years, and spend tens of thousands of dollars just on tuition and books, let alone tens of thousands more on living expenses during their college years. If they decide to go into the corporate arena, they are lucky to earn $70,000 per year. They may get incremental pay increases as a token amount to "keep up with inflation;" which is becoming more difficult all the time. So, they have just spent at least four years in college and $40,000 to $60,000 to hopefully get their "dream job." (A college education is highly valuable, however, jobs acquired through a college eduation usually don't create time and financial freedom.)
The fact is, these young adults (and most adults, for that matter) usually never end up with their "dream job." They end up in a job they don't particularly like. They spend the next several years trying to like a job they don't like. They are now in the "rat race," spinning their wheels on the treadmill to nowhere. They awake day after day to fight traffic, struggle to get to work on time, to do a job they don't like. They are overworked and underpaid, and hope in vain that someday it will get better. It doesn't get better, it usually gets worse; or for everything that seems better there is a price to be paid. Also, there is concern over corporate downsizing, and people find themselves praying to keep jobs they don't like. They have come a long way and worked real hard to end up stressed and depressed in a dead-end job. They feel like they are at the end of the road and out of gas. No wonder pharmaceutical sales of anti-depressant drugs are through the roof!
Inevitablly, people in dead-end jobs start looking for a way to get off the treadmill to nowhere. They want a way to have more money and more time freedom. The cruel paradox is that in order to make more money at a job you sacrafice t
ime freedom. So, people are living to work, not working to live. Even people with six-figure incomes often find that they are working longer hours, more weekends, and taking less vacation than ever before. They wanted more money to have more "time," only to find out they have less time and now are under more stress. How do you escape this trap?
One option that people often choose to hopefully escape the stress of a dead-end job and attempt to have more money is to start their own businesses. However, those who start their own businesses will need several thousand dollars ...borrow $50,000 to $500,000, or more to start a franchise business. They will have to pay and manage employees, worry about inventory and overhead before they are able to even pay themselves a salary. It often takes 10 years just to pay back the borrowed money they needed to start their business. Small business owners quickly find that they don't own their businesses, their businesses owns them! Sadly, they have less time freedom than when they had a job, and usually less money as well. Most small business owners are stuck in their businesses worse than when they were stuck in their dead-end jobs. Now they cannot simply get another job, they are financially tied down to their businesses, and there is no way to get out without a tremendous loss of money, if not through bankruptcy.
